DIRECTIONS FOR TRANSFERING NAMES FROM SDS TO MICROGRADE
In SDS
1. Open SDS and find desired teacher’s name.
2. Highlight a single student’s name, left click and hold. Drag the name to the icon of the printer at the top. A new screen will appear.
3. Left click on the full screen button (upper right corner). When this is done more icons will appear at the bottom of the screen. Left click on the suitcase and a new screen will appear.
4. Under the format section, scroll down to “Tab-separated text”. The destination should read, “Disk file” - click OK.
5. Put a floppy disk in the computer.
6. In the upper left corner, change the name of the class to one that makes sense to you. NOTE, apparently, you can’t change the number of letters on the name. In the lower right corner scroll up to choose the “a: “ drive left click OK.
In Micrograde
7. Open Micrograde to a new class.
8. Under the “Students”, scroll down to “Import students” and right over to “user defined” and let go. A new screen will appear.
9. Find the “3 ½ Floppy (A:) “ drive, by scrolling down in the top most window, and let go. A new screen will appear.
10. At the bottom of this screen is a window “files of this type”, scroll down to say “All Files” and click
11. Find the class you saved and open it. A new screen will appear.
12. ***At the bottom of the window “File Type” should read “Variable Length”, otherwise click on the triangle to change it. If the window shows “Fixed Length” you will have to choose “Tab” as the separator on the next screen in the upper left corner.
13. Left click on the “Continue” button. A new screen will appear.
14. ID NUMBER will be highlighted. In the window on the lower right scroll down and click on ID.
15. In the window above, the highlighter automatically moves to “Student Name”. In the window on the lower right, scroll down to “Combined First and Last Name” and click. A new screen will appear.
16. In the box next to “Name Separator” type a comma ( , ) and click OK and you will be taken back to the previous screen. Click OK again.
17. A new screen will appear asking if you would like to have Micrograde generate student numbers – CLICK NO
18. Click on “finished” and a list of names should appear.
19. Make sure to save under a name that makes sense to you.
20. The transfer gives you some extra copies of your last student name. To get rid of the these names, look under “Students” for “Student records”. Highlight the student, put any number or letter in the “WebGrade Password” box, and press delete.
