Parent Survey

It is time again to ask parents about how we are doing as a school.  In the past we have used the information you have given us to either reinforce what we are doing or to make changes in how we provide services to our students and families.  Last year this is a sampling of the information we received from you:

·     I feel welcome at Ottawa:  91% of respondents agreed.

·    Ottawa provides a safe environment for my children: 96%  agreed.

·    My child is learning the skills and knowledge I would expect in each of his/her subjects: 91% agreed.

·    The school places an appropriate amount of interest and time on the arts: 84% agreed.

·    My child feels supported and cared for at Ottawa: 93% agreed.

·    My child has enough time to eat his/her lunch: 46% agreed.

100% of our respondents said they attended Parent /Teacher conferences and 98% said they attended school events during the year.  94% said they listened to their child read or read to their child.

We appreciate the confidence you hold in us and we continue to work on ways to improve the lunch room experience for your child.  Over the past few years, more and varied fresh fruits and vegetables are available to your child as a choice during lunch time.  Last fall many of the fresh fruits were locally grown.  We are always in need of noon monitors to help in the cafeteria.  Noon monitors encourage children to eat and will not ask a child to throw away their lunch if they are still eating when it is time to go outside.  We are always balancing this “down time” for your child with the need for them to eat in a timely manner. Students are given 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes of outdoor time every day.  Snack times during the day are provided in all classrooms to make sure all children are well nourished. Teachers either ask students or families to provide a snack for their child or are asked to contribute to a snack fund so the teacher may provide healthy snacks for all children.

We will continue to listen to your concerns and try to make adjustments as necessary.  The Ottawa family is a great TEAM and we appreciate the part you play.   Look for the 2012 survey at conferences.
