The Science Department at Petoskey High School includes a vast offering of science courses that expose students to a wide variety of different career and technical possibilities.  Students in the Honors Chemistry courses were involved with the Veggie Mobile as they researched the chemistry of Biodiesel and different manners in which it can be made.  Students then completed a mini-lab in which they created Biodiesel from vegetable oil that could be run in the Veggie Mobile without requiring heating of the vegetable oil initially.

This process has motivated the team to begin the process of writing grants to refine the process of creating biodiesel so we could create a Frybrid that would run on straight vegetable oil in the summer and biodiesel in the extreme winter temperatures.  We would have a car that would then operate year around on minimal cost while being fossil fuel free.

Please see pictures below of the students creating Biodiesel within the lab setting.
